A Unique Blend of Local Creativity
A Community
Moon Over Water is about artists, makers, and creators working a variety of mediums and building a small creative community within the vibrant Rockport art community. As our name reflects, we believe in the relationship between the art created and the artist as the creator. From paint, to pottery, to fiber, and even food, we seek to provide an artistic connection with each visitor.
A Vision
What starts one on the path of opening an art gallery? For twin sisters, Sharen Chatterton and Karen Rester, opening Moon Over Water Gallery and Artisan Market, was and is, their unfailing love for art and the artist community.
Why “Moon Over Water”?
The name Moon Over Water was chosen because the name reflects their thoughts on the relationship between art and the artist.
They believe the moon is symbolic of art. Art, like the moon, is powerful, it brings out emotions, it has the ability to make a strong impact, to illicit change, to draw you in and then set you free.
The water is symbolic of the artist. An artist, like water, experiences that ebb and flow within their process, they can use their energy to create a wave of emotions or to calm the senses. Their journey is guided by their art. The moon is over the water.
Come in, hang out, visit with us, dine with us, join a workshop, and leave with a piece or two of our Moon Over Water energy. That energy takes form in each painting, collage, piece of pottery or jewelry, handmade vessels, unique recipes, and so much more, that artists at Moon Over Water offer to you.
“Sharen and I believe in Art and the Artist who creates it. Art can exist forever; and with this longevity, so may we. We believe in dreams, in seeing those dreams come to life, in whatever medium you may choose to express them. We also believe in the magic that lives in each of us. That spark, that inner light, that the artist calls forth, when creating something from nothing. They bring that something from within themselves, creating their art and their own magic! We want to share that connection of Art and the Artist with everyone who comes into Moon Over Water.
