Moon Musings - January
MOW “WOW!”
This month’s MoW “WOW!” goes to our founders Sharen Chatterton and Karen Rester. They’re so dedicated to promoting the gallery and empowering fellow artists that we want to turn those tables and spotlight them. We couldn’t dream of having more incredible leaders, and their personalities exude love and kindness. Every person who enters the gallery feels it. They’re not just the founders; they’re the heart of Moon over Water.
Sharen - My Art is as varied and eclectic as I am. It is all about listening to the wisdom of my soul. Whether I am painting in acrylics, watercolor, sculpting with clay or mixing it up creating a mixed media piece, it is my journey, my path. Being an intuitive artist, I tend to enjoy the process more than the outcome.
Karen - My artwork comes from that other world around each of us, natures sixth sense. I work with fibers, paper and found wood, weaving, painting with paper, blending and weaving each piece into my expression of the beauty and magic of this planet. Collage and weaving whether on loom, by hand or with paper, brings a spiritual balance of life energy into my art: Infusing a flow of this life force through the work is an intrinsic part of each of my creations.
Upcoming Workshop Features
Speaking of our Moon over Water founders, they’re hosting a workshop at RCA called “Imagine, A Mixed Media Paint Over Workshop” on January 24 from 4-5:30 PM. Come and let your creativity run free.
Curious about Collage? Come see for yourself! Sharen and Karen, along with Bonnie Prouty and our own Kelly Schaub, will host a workshop series called Collage Study Assemblage! It begins on February 2, 2023.
Speaking of new beginnings, if you are interested in vision boarding, our own Kelly Schaub is hosting a Vision Board Gathering on January 14, 2023, on Zoom. The second Saturday in January is National Vision Board Day. Kelly and her community (you’re invited to register!) will gather live on Zoom and, using a variety of collage materials, they will create a unique vision board to set forth their intentions, goals, and dreams for the new year. A variety of approaches will be explored, too.
Kelly also has an encaustic demo coming up! Encaustic is a hot wax method, dating back to the first century. She’ll show you how she adds texture, layers, and luminosity with this most magical of mediums! Demo takes place during the Art Center of Corpus Christi’s weekly Artisan Market. Stop by Wednesday, January 18 from 5-7 pm.
