My work reflects my fascination with the way paint and texture dance together across a surface. For as long as I can recall, I have been mesmerized by the intricacies of tree bark, by sun-seared spots on aging leaves, by the dignified tenacity of crumbling plaster, and by the captivating mini-universe that emerges when metal oxidizes. My main vehicle for exploring texture is cold wax and oil. While my paintings do not seek to emulate specific textures per se, this same enchantment remains my launching point for my texture explorations.
Getting lost in the process of a painting, will always feel like a luxury to me. Combine that with a cup of tea, a sleeping cat or pup nearby, and an irresistible soundtrack (Aretha is always on repeat), and you have my formula for a perfect day. I’m a retired high school English Literature Teacher who decided to let this long-buried artistic side of myself be nourished and live.
