Moon Musings - April
What promises do we make to ourselves and our art practices that are somehow sidelined by the obstacles and pressures that inevitably face us in this mortal journey? It’s quite easy to relegate our art practices as something that can fit around the edges of life, rather than giving it the gravitas that it deserves. If you don’t create art, what is your palette? Is it your glorious garden, with the plants you choose functioning as your expression? Is it your kitchen, where you create edible sensations lovingly created to nourish the ones you love? Is it your empathy, which you use to heal your beloveds with your boundless compassion? We all create art in diverse ways and multiple ways. May is bound to keep the promise in our quote, and the assurance that brings is comforting. When it comes to our art practices, whatever form they take, we are bound to keep that promise for ourselves, honoring it as we do. When we do that, we in turn honor ourselves in a deep, foundational, and authentic way.

April Art Prompt
Make a promise to yourself to work on your art practice for a span of time. Maybe you’ll work in your sketchbook for 10 minutes a day for 10 days. Maybe you’ll research new supplies for an expanded direction in your art, like those new brushes that you’ve been eyeing. Maybe you’ll walk in nature each day for 20 minutes with the express intention of gathering inspiration from the way sunlight lands on leaves. Set the promise and keep it for yourself.
