Moon Musings - February
MOW “WOW”!
For this month’s MOW Wow!, we want to focus on our potters. This is especially fitting because Rockport will be celebrating the Rockport Clay Expo on February 4th and 5th this year at the new Rockport Center for the Arts. Learn more about it here.
In honor of our five gifted potters, we want to spotlight them this month. You will love what you see, and even better, you can own their work for yourself. Come buy their creations at Moon over Water now!
Vivian has been trying “naked raku” for years, and she says this piece is her first real success story. She says that she was pressed to try it again, and the beautiful results speak for themselves! Vivian says this proves that we need to keep stretching, and we will reap the rewards!
Chris is an awestruck observer of the joyful offerings of nature. When crafting this piece, she noted, “Every tie I get a glimpse of a pelican in flight, it gives me instant joy. I wanted to share that joy through my pottery.”
Linda loves tropical colors, and she is mesmerized watching a bloom of jellyfish. She created a glaze for these pieces that reflect that movement and that enchanting movement, so you can experience it, too!
Susan recently traveled to the Taos/Santa Fe area, and she has found that being immersed in the colors and silhouettes of that landscape impacted her deeply. Those elements have found their way into her craft. Having also been influenced by the native pottery, she wanted to give this piece a unique twist with splashes of glaze.
Emily is continuing to explore unique ways to showcase the textures and shapes of the marine plants she works with. Raku pottery provides many considerations in each single piece - the shape of the vessel, the materials chosen to enclose it, and finally, how it is fired - all to yield a single piece with complex depth, which is why she is so drawn to exploring this technique with her medium.
